Lagos Judicial Panel Awards N16.2m To 4 Victims Of Police Brutality

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing allegations of human rights abuses against the disbanded police Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Saturday awarded a total of N16,250,000 to four victims of police brutality. The Chairperson of the panel, Doris Okuwobi, gave the ruling on Saturday.

The names of the petitioners are Tolulope Openiyi, Tella Adesanya, Felicia Opara, and Blessing Esanbor.

Lagos Judicial PanelRecall that in February 2021 the Lagos Judicial Panel of Restitution and Inquiry set up to investigate cases of police brutality has awarded 10 million naira each two victims of police brutality. The two petitioners, Kudirat Abayomi and Hannah Olugbodi were awarded the compensation on Friday. The Lagos judicial panel also recommended the prosecution of the erring police officers in the case involving Abayomi.
