Lagos Govt To Close Marine Bridge For 14 Weeks For Emergency Repairs

Lagos State Government has announced that the Marine Bridge will be closed for emergency repairs.
This is coming the same month a year ago when the bridge was up for closure for 5 months for a repair which would last for a period of 20 weeks.Lagos Govt To Close Marine Bridge For 14 Weeks For Emergency RepairsThe closure now, which is a partial one will commence on March 9 and last till June 21, the Commissioner for Transportation in the state, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde said in a statement on Friday. Oladeinde explained that this was necessary to maintain the bridge’s infrastructure which included removal and cleaning of the existing expansion joints to prevent further deterioration.

Adding that traffic would be diverted to alternative routes and the Apapa inward lane would be divided into two to allow the counter flow of traffic during the period of the partial closure, the commissioner noted that palliative works have been completed on alternative routes to ease movement and ameliorate the effect of the expected traffic.
“Motorists inwards Apapa are advised to make use of Total underneath the bridge to connect Naval Dockyard to Danlami to Leventis corridor and/or to connect Marine Beach by Mobil through Federal Fire Service/Obanikoro to Naggaf/North Avenue to Wharf Road. Motorists from Ajegunle inwards Iganmu/or Ijora should use Agbo Malu to Tego Barracks to Total underneath the bridge and ascend Marine Bridge to connect their desired destinations”, his statement reads.

The statement also urged road users from Ajegunle inwards Iganmu/or Ijora to use Agbo Malu to Tego Barracks to Total, underneath the bridge and ascend Marine Bridge to connect their desired destinations. In addition, Oladeinde also implored vehicle owners plying the corridors to be patient and bear with the State government as the measures taken are aimed at providing quality and safe road infrastructure for everyone.
