Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Sunday said the driver of a Volkswagen ‘T4’ commercial bus (LSR 966 YE) had been arrested for stabbing a Lastma officer.
He reportedly stabbed the officer after being apprehended for traffic obstruction around the Costain roundabout in Lagos.
According to a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA on Sunday, Lastma Officer Olajide Olukoga ‘Bravo’ who led the enforcement team narrated that the commercial bus driver was apprehended for picking up passengers on the main expressway, thereby causing traffic obstructions to other road users around Costain inward Iponrin.

He further disclosed that the enforcement operation was carried out around Costain roundabout inward Iponrin after several warnings by the government to commercial bus/private car drivers to pick up passengers or friends at designated bus stops.
“Our enforcement team had successfully apprehended the driver despite dangerous driving attempts to escape before he brought out a knife and stabbed me.
“After seeing the deep cut he had inflicted with the knife, he decided to strip himself naked and caused serious commotions before he was eventually arrested by policemen from Iponri Police Station.

“After his arrest, dangerous weapons ‘cutlass and knife’ were recovered inside his commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus by security officers,” Olukoga was quoted as saying.
The state government has said the arrested driver would be immediately prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other “recalcitrant” drivers.
