KOKO’s Super Women: 3 Women Who Have Broken Barriers In Nollywood

Women have been breaking records and pushing boundaries right from the beginning of time and this being the month of women celebration, we are looking at women who have broken barriers in the Nigerian movie industry.
1. Omotola Jalade: One of the leading African actress in Nigeria, Omotola Jalade has gone on to do great things, she was the first African celebrity to receive over 1 million likes on her Facebook page. In 2013, she was honoured in Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world alongside Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and Kate Middleton
2. Genevieve Nnaji: Last Year Genevieve’s movie Lion heart became the first Netflix original Nollywood film, Also she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actress to win the award. she also has been honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to Nollywood.
3. Kemi Adetiba: She is one of the most prolific Nigerian directors, her movie the Wedding party is the second highest grossing movie in Nigeria and King of Boyz which was produced by her own production company is the fourth highest grossing movie.  Photo Credit: Getty
