KOKO’s Men Of The Week: 4 Trendsetting African Goal Scorers That Have Got A Flair For Fashion

Three African players are the top goalscorers in the English Premier League this season. Sadio Mane (Liverpool), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) share the Golden Boot award, with each scoring 22 goals. Before these 3 romped to the title in style Didier Drogba broke the duck and became the first African ever to win the EPL golden boot title in history.

Didier Drogba {Ivory Coast}: Didier Drogba won the EPL golden boot twice in his career during his first 8 years spell once under Jose Mourinho as manager 2006–07 season, also under Ancelotti in 2009–10. Drogba was also named in the PFA team of the year twice also in the 2006/2007, and in the 2009/2010 season.

Mane {Senegal}: In 2015, Saido Mané set a new Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick when he scored three times in 176 seconds during a 6–1 win over Aston Villa. On 20 April, he was one of six players nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award alongside teammate Virgil van Dijk. He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year alongside Liverpool teammates, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson and van Dijk. On the final day of the domestic campaign, Mané scored twice in a 2–0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. His brace took him to 22 goals for the campaign which saw him share the Premier League Golden Boot award with Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang {Gabon}: The Gabonese Captain has scored over 20 goals every season of the last 4 seasons of his career 2 and half season at Borussia Dortmund, and a season and half, also at Arsenal. Aubameyang has proven consistently that he is a proficient prolific goal scorer, he scored a Hat-trick against Valencia at the Mestalla In Europa League semi-final that helped propel his Arsenal into the Europa League final against fellow English side Chelsea meant to hold on the 29th of May.

And Salah {Egypt}: Mo Salah won the golden boot last season with 32 goals and was also the highest goalscorer in the UCL in 2017/2018 season With 12 goals but got injured in the 1st half from a tackle by Sergio Ramos Liverpool lost the Final 3-1 to Real Madrid goals from Sergio Ramos, and Gareth Bale. Mo Salah who won the title with 32 strikes in 2017/18, was the 2nd African to win the title after Didier Drogba becomes only the sixth player and the first African to retain his Premier League Golden Boot title – even though he has to share it with Mane and Aubameyang.
