The Nigerian fashion industry just like the entertainment industry is one niche that is doing well and showing the world what Nigerian can do when they put their mind to it. There are designers and then there are designers. designers
While designers and stylists keep emerging day by day there are some who have set themselves apart through their work. So here is KOKO’s best designers in Nigeria 2022;
20. Kathy Anthony
The toast of Northern Nigerian opulent brides, Oluwatoyin Iwukemjika runs Kathy Anthony fashion house out of Abuja. A trained economist, she also runs House of Style Academy. She is best known for her unique Ankara fabrics which she uses to make the most stylish outfits. Kathy Anthony also has a fashion academy through which she imparts her knowledge. She specializes in male clothing designs. Kathy is one of the most popular female Nigerian fashion designers who deal in male clothing designs.

19. Folake Coker
Folarin Folake- Coker is one of the most respected in the global fashion industry. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1974. She is currently Tiffany Amber‘s creative director. Folake Coker had her education in both the UK and Switzerland. There, she earned a postgraduate degree after studying petroleum law. She however came back to Nigeria to follow her fashion dreams. She launched her popular fashion brand known as Tiffany Amber in Lagos in 1998. Since then, the brand has grown to become an iconic fashion label. Tiffany Amber has revealed her designs in many fashion shows across the country. She is referred to as the brain behind many fashion shows in Europe, Africa, and the United States.
18. Kunbi Oyelese
Kunbi Oyelese popularly known by her brand name, ‘April by Kunbi’ is a graduate of the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Her brand name is inspired by her birth month April. April by Kunbi was founded in 2010. She has beautiful bridal pieces and has also designed for celebrities such as Agbani Darego, Tiwa Savage, Toke Makinwa, Seyi Shay and many others. Her outfits and designs are always fun to see because of their colorful blend.
17. Lola Faturoti
Lola Faturoti was born in London and started designing in 1993, after graduating from London where she studied fashion designing. Lola hit the fashion industry in 2000 when she created a buzz and upstaged Ralph Lauren’s fashion show at New York Fashion Week. After considerable success with an impressive following by the international press, Faturoti decided to expand her international presence by spending some time in Milan, Italy. Hence, she took a break from running her fashion business, moved to Italy, and designed, for three years, for other reputable designers. In 2005, Lola went back to the city launching her comeback collection for Fall-Winter 2007-08.

16. Og Okonkwo
Ogugua Okonkwo popularly known as Og Okonkwo is a Nigerian womenswear designer, fashionista, and the founder and creative director of the fashion brand Style Temple. Okonkwo was raised in Enugu, Nigeria and she studied laboratory science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka before delving into fashion design. Okonkwo launched Style Temple in 2012, after long stints training as a fashion assistant and junior designer at a few Abuja-based fashion labels. Style Temple, under Okonkwo’s leadership, showcases their collection annually at the Lagos Fashion and Design Week, and the brand has been hailed by Vogue , Fashion Bomb Daily, Elle, Glamour, and CNN for its visionary take on womenswear.
15. Matopeda King
Matopeda Salami Abiola King is a Nigerian fashion designer and stylist. She is founder of Matopeda Atelier formerly known as TopeFnR. Matopeda King has dressed celebrities like Beyoncé, Genevieve Nnaji, Porsha Williams, Adesua Etomi-Wellington.
14. Idiol Nupo
Idiol Nupo is an amazing fashion designer and stylist who has succeeded in carving a niche for her herself in the fashion industry. She makes bespoke outfits for brides and red carpet and her works are tremendous. Idiol has styled numerous celebrities like Sharon Ooja, Alex Unusual, Mariam Adeyemi Timmer.

Victoria James popularly known as Veekee James is one designer that has been so remarkable with her designs and style of work. The Akwa Ibom born entrepreneur is known for her illusion and sheer gorgeous dresses which are mostly worn by brides and red carpet appearances. Veekee James’ passion for fashion started way back in secondary school. The creative diva has mastered the art of sculpting the feminine body in her dresses. Damilola Oke popularly referred to as Madam Modish is a Celebrity fashion stylist and the founder behind Fierce and Modish. She began styling Celebrities in 2013 and has since worked with numerous celebrities such as Waje, Falz, Sharon Ooja, Tacha, and many others.

Makioba Susan Bob-Manuel Olugbile is one of Nigeria’s finest talents, globally admired for her exquisite couture and ready to wear creations. Veronica Odeka is one of the best stylist in Nigeria and grew up in Houston and started modelling from the age of 17. The beautiful entrepreneur graduated from University of Houston with a BA degree in Communication and a minor in Public Relations plus several short courses in fashion at the London College of fashion. One of the unique features about Veronica Odeka is the fact that she supports made-in-Nigeria wears and is one of the celebrity stylists who do such. She is the founder and creative director of Vane style and has worked with numerous A-clients. 7. Yolanda Okereke
Yolanda Okereke is a Nigerian fashion stylist and costume designer. She is a graduate of Chemical Engineering is the brain behind the costumes worn in the movie King of boys 2018 and also the 2022 movie Blood Sister, Rita Dominic’s The Meeting, Ashionye Raccah’s Journey to Self, Emem Isong’s Weekend Getaway, and Monalisa Chinda’s 2010 series, Catwalk, among others. Dumebi Andrea Iyamah born March 18, 1993 is a Nigerian-Canadian fashion designer from Lagos, Nigeria. Andrea Iyamah is the founder and CEO of the fashion label Andrea Iyamah, which specializes in bridal, swimwear, and ready-to-wear lines. Her take on women’s fashion and swimwear has been worn by celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, and Issa Rae. The 29 year old fashion enthusiast/designer has staged several high-profile fashion shows in Africa, Europe, France and the United States. Iyamah was the fourth of four children born in Lagos to Andrew and Onyi Iyamah, both of Ika (Agbor) in Delta State. In Lagos, she attended Grange School for her basic education before travelling abroad for her tertiary education. She graduated from McMaster University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Multimedia. Arguably the most talked about fashion entrepreneur in Nigeria at the moment, the CEO Medlin Couture has no doubt taken the fashion business to another level with her innovative and groundbreaking ideas. Born on August 10, 1982 into a family of 6, Mimi Yina Hails from Gboko Local Government in Benue state. Mimi has always been a fashionista as a kid before she ventured into fashion business as a student of University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) where she was studying Sociology. Her fashion brand came into being as a result of passion and drive for excellence. Abiodun Folashade is indeed a designer that deserves the accolades that she is getting because she deserves it all.
