KOKOnista Of The Day: Maryam Booth Is The Hausa Actress With Impeccable Educational Pedigree

Maryam Ado Mohammed, also known as Maryam Booth is a Nigerian actress and model, best known for her role in the The Milkmaid (film), which was Nigeria’s representative for the best international feature category at the Academy Awards.


Maryam Booth was born on the 28th of October, 1993 in Kano State, Nigeria. She is of mixed heritage, grandfather is Scottish while her grandmother is Fulani. Maryam’s mother, Zainab Booth is a veteran Kannywood actress while her brother, Ahmed Booth is also popular in the Hausa entertainment industry. She is also related to Ramadan Booth.
Maryam had her primary education at Ebony Nursery and Primary School. After obtaining her First School Leaving Certificate, she enrolled at the Ahmadiyya Secondary School for her SSCE.
Maryam Booth further travelled to Malaysia, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business administration from the prestigious Mantissa College. She also holds a diploma from Bayero University, Kano and a Masters degree in Project Management and Cinematography.

She is one of the most popular female Kannywood stars, having been in the entertainment industry for many years. Maryam isn’t the only Kannywood actor in her family, her mother, Zainab Booth is a renowned veteran actress and her brother Ahmed Booth, is an actor, too.

Maryam Booth was introduced to acting by her aunt, Bello Mohammed at a very early age of 8. She came into limelight after performing in a movie titled ‘Dijangala’ and has since then, been consistent in the industry. ‘Dijangala’  was directed by Ali Nuhu, one of the best actors in the Kannywood industry and released in 2007.
Asides from acting, Maryam Booth is also a fashion designer, makeup artist and entrepreneur. She is the founder/CEO of two successful brands, MBooths Collections and MBooths Beauty Parlours. MBooths Collections deals on fashion wear like bridal wears, materials, clutches and bags while MBooths Beauty Parlours deals on pedicure, manicure, fixing of hair and more.
For her role as “Zainab” in the film, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

She hosted the 2019 edition of the Best of Nlooywood Awards. In 2020, Maryam won the best supporting actress category at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
