Men come in sizes, and life in stages. We need to start appreciating that life progresses in phases. In a world where everything is instant from noodles to cash transfer, we are tempted to think life as a whole functions that way. So when we confront challenges that seem too great to overcome, we tend to give up, turn our back on it and avoid it again totally for the rest of our lives.
The wise words of my grandpa still rings true today as it did the first time I heard it 13 years ago; “What looks like a mountain to an ant is only a pebble to a man.” If we learn to be patient enough to wait and grow, we might discover that what once seemed like an intimidating mountain now would shrink enough to step over easily into the future. Because then, the ant would have grown into a man.
