There are few phrases dreaded than “He is with them”. The phrase that concludes you are an alien/insane/unreasonable/think differently and not a part of the accepted majority. Even the Saint Peter that is much revered by members of the Christian faith wasted no time in pledging allegiance to the accepted majority the three times he was classified as “part of them.” And it is understandably simple to see why we all want to be with the crowd. Inside the crowd is safety. Inside is crowd is support. Inside the crowd is acceptance. These are the three of the basic needs of every man.But your footprints in the sands of time would not be traceable if you are moving with the crowd. It would not be distinct from the myriad of others you are moving with. No one comes close to changing history and advancing humanity without daring to have a bit of thinking the world considers as absolutely nuts and impossible. If you move with the crowd, you will think like the crowd. And history has always only be changed by minority. That is the whole point of historical change – from majority point of view to minority.History are full of people who were mocked because they dared to be unreasonable with the accepted school of thought, but still went on to achieve greatness. The Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln, Einstein, Walt Disney, Ajayi Crowther, Wangari Maathai, Donald Trump. Bernard Shaw summed it up perfectly with the quote:
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”Photo Credit: Getty
