Kanye West Splits With Jay-Z’s Tidal After Being Owed More Than N1.1bn

Rapper Kanye West, a key player who helped launch Jay-Z’s music streaming Tidal company in 2015, alongside the likes of Rihanna and Calvin Harris, has left the company over a money dispute and Tidal has threatened to sue him, media sources claim.

Sources connected to Tidal indicate that Kanye has been unhappy with the company for a long time, as Kanye is reportedly to have complained that the company owes him money – more than $3 million, that is over 1 billion Naira.The rapper, 40, is said to be ‘owed more more than $3 million’ from the music streaming site – with his lawyers sending a letter to the company telling them they were ‘in breach and the contact was terminated.’ The publication also revealed that Kanye’s lawyers sent another letter two weeks after the first one after the conflict failed to be resolved. Kanye’s issue with Tidal appears twofold – That his The Life of Pablo album resulted in 1 1/2 million new subscribers to Tidal, for which he was supposed to get a bonus but the company hasn’t paid. Kanye also says Tidal reneged on reimbursing him for music videos.The company also reportedly went back on their promise of reimbursing him for music videos – but Tidal stated that he ‘didn’t deliver the videos required by contract.’

Tidal have since sent a letter back, stating they ‘still have an exclusive contract with Kanye and if he goes to another streaming service they’d sue him.’Photo Credit: Getty
