As the world commemorates Press Freedom Day, the Kano State Governor-elect, Abba Yusuf, has urged media owners and journalists to be steadfast in providing credible news while remaining staunch defenders of free speech in society.
Yusuf said only with credible reportage, the media can preserve its respectability as the watchdog of society to be able to hold political officeholders accountable.
The governor-elect in a special message, a copy of which was made available to newsmen appealed to all categories of leaders to play their part in ensuring a free press by protecting the rights of media practitioners around the globe.

While congratulating journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day 2023, Kabir said the incoming administration will collaborate with the media to promote accountability and good governance through objective, fair and balanced reporting.

The governor-elect assured media practitioners in Kano that press freedom will be guaranteed if decency and ethics guiding the noble profession are not compromised.
