Garba Shehu has disagreed with the narrative that the APC-led administration staged the abduction of the Kankara Boys, narrating how the kidnappers of the boys were contacted and how the boys got released.
Garba, who is a guest Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily today, explained that the repentant members of the terrorist group living in the Nigerian communities played a great role in the release of the boys, as the leading negotiators gained access to the Boko Haram terrorist group using them.
Recall that Buhari’s administration had rehabilitated the caught members of the insurgent group, making them pledge allegiance to the nation, and then infused them back into the community, against all warnings.
Defending his administration against staging the Kankara kidnap, Garba Shehu argued that no decent human will subject young people to such. He described it as a ridiculous act which never occurred.

When asked if any ransome was paid on the released Kankara boys, Garba Shehu said, “All of the leading actors involved in the release of the students said no ransome was paid. The Governor of Zamfara State who had the policy of engagement with the bandits, leading to the surrender and the renouncement of banditry, used the repentant bandits to gain access to those that were in the forest, and they had the boys released. Your question is if ransome was paid, to the best of our knowledge, no ransome was paid because all the leading actors, Katsina and Zamfara said no ransome was paid.”
