Kagara Abduction: We Won’t Pay Kidnappers Any Ransom – Niger Government

Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, declares that his administration would not pay ransom to kidnappers.

Bello made the statement after some students and staff of the Government Science College in Kanagara, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, were kidnapped by gunmen.

To curtail the situation, the Governor had ordered the closure of all boarding schools in the affected area.


Explaining why he ordered the closure, the Governor said it was necessary in order to save the life of the students as the area is already taken over by bandits.

He made this remark following a concluded meeting with the heads of security chiefs in the state at the Government House, Minna, on Wednesday.

Bello, who said the situation is now out of hand to ask the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to deploy all measures to salvage the situation.

Buhari, in response to the call, said a team of security chiefs had been deployed to coordinate the recapture and rescue of the abducted girls.

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known in a statement.

KOKO TV had earlier reported that gunmen stormed Government Science College, whisking away students and staff of the school but Buhari through a statement issued by his Media aides had deployed security operatives to rescue them.Photo Credit: Getty
