Following the Central Bank of Nigeria‘s directive that old N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender until December 31st, Kaduna residents have stormed commercial banks.
According to Mrs. John Grace, she got First Bank gate at about 6:00am saying she is rest assured of getting cash.

Kaduna residents flooded commercial banks on Tuesday following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive that old N500, N1,000 notes be remain valid legal tender until December 31.
Many commercial banks’ gates were full before 8:00 am, with customers optimistic that their sufferings have come to an end.
Mrs. John Grace, who said she stood at the first Bank gate since 6:00 am this morning, said she was sure of going home with money.
Mr Jusmana Moses, who arrived early at the United Bank Of Africa gate, said the bank have no excuses anymore as they can payout cash in both old and new notes.
“It’s either they give me new notes, or old currency,” he said.
Another Zenith Bank customer, Peter Abraham also revealed that the bank has two options to either payout old or new notes earlier received.
Dr Musa Yahaya, an account officer in one of the commercial banks in Kaduna told reporters that the bank had no money to pay to customers noting that all old notes were taken to the Central Bank of Nigeria at the time when the new naira notes were minted.

“As I am speaking with you now, the bank has no dim to pay to it’s customers. We are all depending on the CBN to give us money. It could be old or new, depending on the available currency,” he said.
