Jummah Fashion: Why Do Muslimahs Prefer Henna Over Nail Polish?

A lot of people might have been wondering why most muslim women would rather use henna on their fingernails or toenails rather than using the common nail polish or cutex, well there is a reason for it.

Over the years it has been discovered and proved by Islamic scholars that nail polish when applied, covers the fingernail or toenail and creates a shield on it, thereby preventing water from penetrating into it. And as we all know solat (prayer) is important to all muslims; before any solat can be observed it is necessary for an ablution to be done.

For an ablution to be accepted, it is required that water penetrate into not just the fingernails but also the toenails, with this in mind muslim women find it difficult to apply nail polish as it prevent their ablution from being accepted.

Henna on the other hand does not prevent women from praying as it allows water to penetrate in the nails and apart from that it also serves other purpose as it can be used for hair and body art.
