Troops of the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, codenamed Operation Delta Safe, said they have rescued two soldiers and four civilians, including a lady, who were kidnapped by militants in Rivers State, following a gun battle.

Coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre, Major Ibrahim Abdullahi, who disclosed this yesterday in a statement in Yenagoa, said the two soldiers were kidnapped, Monday, while on transit for banking services in ONELGA, Rivers State, and were rescued during a military operation at a militant camp with several shrines in a forest at Obiozimini community in Rivers State.

According to Major Abdullahi, the troops were trailing the militants, who then fled into the forest. According to him, “the operation successfully rescued the two abducted personnel. Further search of the campsite led to the rescue of four more civilians that were earlier kidnapped, including a lady.”
