Igbos Are In Charge Of Economy, Leaving Is Unthinkable – President Buhari

As he visited Imo, promising to help fight insecurity in the Eastern Heartland State, President Buhari could not help but wonder why some Igbo men are clamouring for separation, noting that the Igbos control the nation’s economy and are relevant in the nation.

Recall that the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB as led by the now arrested and detained Nnamdi Kanu, had been demanding that they break out of Nigeria and stay independent. As a matter of fact, this break away had once happened as Biafra State in West Africa, existing from May 1967 to January 1970.

These calls for break away, the President said, is unthinkable as he noted that Igbos  have successful businesses across the country. President Buhari was quoted to have said these while speaking at a town hall meeting with South-East leaders during his one-day official visit to the State.

In the statement signed by media aide Femi Adesina and titled, ‘I want to be remembered as a President who stabilised Nigeria, President Buhari tells South-East leaders’, the President acknowledged the resourcefulness and enterprising spirit of Igbo people.“The fundamental thing about the Igbo people is that there is no town you will visit in Nigeria without seeing the Igbos being in charge of either infrastructure or pharmaceutical industry. Therefore, it is unthinkable for me that any Igbo man would consider himself not to be a part of Nigeria”, he said.

“The evidence is there for everyone to see that Igbos are in charge of Nigeria’s economy”, he added.
