Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife Mackenzie Scott has donated a staggering $1.7billion to charity in the last year.
Scott, who divorced Amazon billionaire Bezos last year, gave money to a number of causes including racial equality, LGBTQ rights, public health and climate change, she said in a blog post on Tuesday.

Previously known as MacKenzie Bezos, the philanthropist took the opportunity to announce her donations and her new last name, which she said is taken from her middle name.
Last year, she signed the Giving Pledge in a commitment to donate the majority of her fortune after her split from the world’s richest man left her with a 4% stake in Amazon.
In a blog post she said: “Like many, I watched the first half of 2020 with a mixture of heartbreak and horror. I began work to complete my pledge with the belief that my life had yielded two assets that could be of particular value to others: the money these systems helped deliver to me, and a conviction that people who have experience with inequities are the ones best equipped to design solutions.”
Scott’s stake in Amazon was worth about $36billion at the time of her divorce. Her fortune has grown to more than $60billion with a jump in Amazon’s shares this year.
Scott’s announcement comes just 24 hours before Bezos will appear for his first-ever Congressional testimony as part of an investigation into how Amazon has used its market power.Photo Credit: Getty
