Jake Paul Taunts And Withdraws $50m Conor McGregor Fight After Shock Dustin Poirier Defeat

Jake Paul wasted little time in mocking Conor McGregor following his shock defeat against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

The Irishman had been an overwhelming favourite to defeat his American opponent but was subjected to a comprehensive beating and was KO’d for the first time in his career in the second round.

A stunned McGregor admitted afterwards he was unsure what the future would hold for him, but his hopes of luring arch nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov now appear to be in tatters.

One intriguing option that had been on the table for McGregor prior to his downfall against Poirier was and invitation to fight YouTube star Jake Paul. The American, brother of Logan, who has designs on turning professional, has regularly called out McGregor on social media and even suggested he’d fight him for $50million, although that offer has now be retracted.

‘Conor, ay, ay, Conor – I got $10,000 for you cash, cash baby,’ said Paul, shortly after McGregor’s dramatic loss. ‘You had $50million!’

Assessing his likely next move, meanwhile, McGregor said at his post-fight press conference: ‘I would like to get back on the horse and secure the new belt with the Irish flag. Anything can happen in this sport.

‘You show up you reap the rewards. I’ll keep my eye on the prize for sure.’

On the future of his star attaction, UFC president Dana White added: ‘Look, there is two ways this goes – hungrier or I’m done, he’s got the money,’ he said in the post-fight press conference.

‘This is like Rocky III, when you get offered a 300 foot yacht, it is tough to be a savage when he is living like he is.

‘When he was a young kid he was hungry, now he has got everything he ever wanted so I don’t know, it goes this way or that way.’
