Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage has officially been granted a divorce from wife Erika Koike.
He and Erika decided to tie the knot in a surprise Las Vegas wedding back in March, but their marriage only lasted four days before Nicolas realised he wanted to call it quits and filed for an annulment.
Media reports indicates that the actor, 55, has now instead been granted a divorce by a judge – according to Clark County Nevada online records. Their divorce comes just over two months after Nicolas claimed he was ‘too drunk’ to understand he was marrying Erika in annulment papers he filed. The documents claimed Cage ‘lacked understanding of his actions in marrying [Erika] to the extent that he was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.’
His lawyers allegedly state: ‘Prior to obtaining a marriage license and participating in a marriage ceremony, [Cage] and [Koike] were both drinking to the point of intoxication. As a result of his intoxication, when [Koike] suggested to [Cage] that they should marry, [Cage] reacted on impulse and without the ability to recognise or understand the full impact of his actions.’
Cage also states there is grounds for an annulment to be granted as Erika didn’t ‘disclose the full nature and extent of her relationship with another person’ or ‘inform him of her criminal history’. Her ‘criminal history’, however, wasn’t disclosed.
Cage’s marriage to Koike is his fourth marriage. He split from first wife Patricia Arquette in 2001 after six years of marriage and went on to wed second wife Lisa Marie Presley in 2002. Cage and Lisa filed for a divorce just three months after their wedding and it was finalised in 2004 – the same year Nicolas married third wife Alice Kim. He and Alice were together for 12 years and share 13-year-old son Kal-El.
