It Is Results Business – Chelsea’s John Terry Defends Manchester United Sacking Of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be ‘half-relieved’ to have parted company with Manchester United.

United announced Solskjaer’s departure from Old Trafford on Sunday morning less than 24 hours after the dismal 4-1 defeat away to Watford.

His former assistant Michael Carrick is set to take charge of Tuesday’s crunch Champions League tie against Villarreal with the club now looking to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.

Solskjaer leaves after just shy of three years in charge and while Terry believes the United legend will be hurt by Sunday’s decision, he suggests the Norwegian will have anticipated the move.

‘When you are Man United like Ole was it is difficult to take,’ Terry said. ‘It will hurt him for sure.

‘But it is an results business, we all know that going into it. It is really sad it has happened but unfortunately its part and parcel of the job.

‘It is difficult. Ole is Man United through and through but when you don’t get those results it is difficult.

‘Yesterday when you see him walking off, apologising to the supporters, it is not a good place to be.

‘In a way, he will be half-relieved too to be away from it.’

Marcus Rashford became the first United player to pay tribute to Solskjaer on Sunday afternoon with club legends David Beckham and Gary Neville also passing on messages.
