Malaria Is The Cause Of Death In Kano, Not Coronavirus – Commissioner

Kano State government has said that the recent deaths in the state is not as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but rather a consequence of malaria.

Kano StateThis was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba in a statement on Sunday, April 27, 2020.

He said “Although an investigation into the cause of the deaths is still ongoing, preliminary reports from the state Ministry of Health indicated that the deaths are not connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports have shown that most of the deaths were caused by complications arising from hypertension, diabetes, meningitis, and acute malaria.Read more: Update: Kano Records 2 Coronavirus Deaths

“Also, the State Government is collaborating with​ Bayero University Kano to establish a testing centre within the institution, which will be ready in two weeks time after being certified by the NCDC. This will, indeed, enhance our determination to ensure that every suspected case undergo a test.”

As at Sunday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said77 of the 1273 total Covid-19 cases recorded in the country were reported in Kano.Photo Credit: Getty
