International Women’s Day: Victims Of Acid Attacks In India Walk The Runway

A group of women who suffered horrid acid attacks in India walked the runway to celebrate the International Women’s Day. The women numbering about 11, partook in the fashion show held in Thane, Mumbai, on Wednesday. Organisers of the show while speaking on the aim of it said it is to raise awareness on the severity of violence against women in the country. They added the show is a call to the government to ban the sale of acid in the country. Laxmi Agarwal, one of the victims who walked the runway spoke about how she regained her confidence. According to Agarwal, she was attacked at the age of 15, her offence was refusing the marriage proposal of a 32-year-old man. ‘I swept aside notions about the face, which society spoke of, and moved forward in life.’ She added: ‘We don’t want respect, we want equality.’  Deepmala Tiwary, another victim said;’What others think about us does not have relevance, what we think about ourselves is only what matters.’     Photo Credit: Getty
