The Insider: Stunning Photos From London’s Notting Hill Carnival

The annual Notting Hill carnival kicked off on the streets of west London on Sunday with the Family Day parade. More than 2 million people are expected to attend Europe’s biggest street party over the two days of the bank holiday weekend. The official opening ceremony saw the charity single, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” performed and a multi-faith prayer said. Doves were released into the air as a tribute to those who lost their lives at the Grenfell fire.
London Mayor, Sadiq Khan said although the 51st carnival took place in a “context of sadness and sorrow”, it was a celebration of London’s diversity.

Thousands of energetic performers with strikingly colourful costumes entertain tens of thousands lining the streets in west London in stunning weather. Here are some photos from the event.
