Fire Guts INEC Ondo Office
The sudden infernos that show up at Government and Public offices prior to an event is becoming worrisome and alarming as again, fire has gutted the Independent National Electoral Committee INEC Ondo Head office located in Akure, barely one month to the governorship election in the State.
This was confirmed in a situation report given by the commission via its official Twitter handle, revealing how the container housing the smart card readers have been destroyed due to the fire.
According to the statement, the fire had begun at about 7.30 pm at the INEC Ondo Head Office which is located right behind the State fire department, but as the time of the release of the statement (9:07pm), the men of the fire department were said to be containing the fire.
FIRE AT INEC OFFICE IN AKURE Fire broke out today, Thursday September 10,2020 at the Ondo State Head Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akure. The inferno, which gutted the container housing Smart Card Readers, started at 7.30 pm.

Men of the Fire Service are however currently containing the fire. National Commissioner, Barrister Festus Okoye, who is in Ondo State in connection with preparations for the Ondo State Governorship election scheduled for 10th October 2020, rushed to the office at about 8pm. The Administrative Secretary of the State, Mr. Popoola and some staff of the Commission are also there. Barrister Okoye said investigation into the cause of the fire will commence promptly after the fire has been contained.”
