INEC Meets NYSC, Expresses Readiness For Elections

With exactly 49 days to the February 25 presidential election, the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, on Friday, visited the National Headquarters of the National Youth Service Corp with a declaration that “we are set”.

Reports has it that he was accompanied by senior members of the commission, National Commissioners and Directors.

According to him, Nigeria cannot conduct any successful election without the active participation of corp members as ad-hoc staff.

The NYSC acting Director-General, Christy Uba, demanded the review of the allowances of corp members by the NYSC in view of the prevailing economic situation in the country.

In other news, President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Mental Health Bill harmonised by both Houses of Assembly in 2021.

The signing which seems to be a parting gift to Nigerians from the president Buhari is also the 1st Mental Health Act/ Law post Independence and will also replaced the Lunacy Act of 1958.

It could be recalled that in 2019, the mental health legislation was advanced, with the Senate passing it for second reading and holding public hearings in 2020.
