INEC Extends Voting Time For Units With Delayed Starting

Voting time has been extended in some polling units by the Independent National Electoral Commission due to technical challenges and complaints, including malfunctioning of card readers, many of the units witnessed.  Festus Okoye, INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee chairman, made this known while giving updates on the ongoing elections. In his words; “Every place where we experience challenges would be granted an extension, by the number of hours lost. If a polling unit is supposed to be activated at 8:00 a.m. and starts by 12 Noon, four hours will be added.“Any place there are security challenges and we can’t deploy materials and personnel, the commission will take an action on those areas.”Photo Credit: Getty
