INEC Declares PDP’s Mbah Winner Of Enugu’s Guber Election


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the governorship candidate under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.

Peter Mbah won the election after securing 160,895 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP), who got 157,552 votes.

Similarly, Frank Nweke Jnr of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) bagged 17,983 while Chief Uche Nnaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 14,575 votes.

The result collation exercise which had been suspended days ago, resumed Wednesday evening. The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe declared Mbah winner on Wednesday evening after the final collation of governorship election results in Enugu, the Enugu State capital.

Prof. Iwe had assured the state’s residents before the declaration that the elections result in two local governments Nkanu East and Nsukka LGs which were previously under contention has been resolved.

“We have come back to conclude the collation of results.

“We received some petitions, particularly against Nsukka and Nkanu East LGs and these things were taken to Abuja for resolution.

“The petition against Nsukka was overruled. That means whatever anybody had against Nsukka was not substantiated.”
