INEC Declares Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Sule, Winner Of Polls

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state after scoring the highest votes in the polls.

Sule who is flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been seeking re-election into the office for a second term had emerged the ultimate winner after defeating his opponent with over 60,000 votes.

The Governor had secured 347, 209 votes in the contest with his closest challenger, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party having 283,016 votes while Abdullahi Maidoya of the New Nigeria People’s Party bagged 11,726 votes.

The election results were collated and announced in Lafia on Monday by the INEC’s Returning Officer in Nasarawa State, Prof. Ishaya Tanko.

According to Tanko, who is the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Plateau State, the Social Democratic Party candidate, Mohammed Mustapha, scored 9,003 votes.

He further explained that the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,899,244 while the accredited voters in the state were 668,978.  Tanko also explained that the total votes cast were 660,805 while the rejected votes were 6,934.

“Having satisfied the requirements and having received the total votes of 347,209 by the APC with the candidate, Sule Audu, is hereby returned and declared the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State.”
