Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has demanded an apology from his colleague Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State to Nigerians for his statement on Fulani herdsmen carrying AK-47s, and insisted that he should be held responsible if anything happens to him.
Samuel Ortom said this while addressing newsmen about the herdsmen and farmers clashes that has always been an issue across the country and has most recently, caused a lof of division among the Governors.Recall that Samuel Ortom had on Monday warned herdsmen in his State to obey and respect the rules and laws of the land or go to Bala Mohammed’s State to carry AK-47s, saying there, they wouldn’t be apprehended for doing so. At another point, Ortom asked that Bala apologise to Nigerians for his statement in the stead of arguing and defending his AK-47 statement further, an act which according to the former, is inflicting pains on victims of the herdsmen activities like his State.
“I think the Governor of Bauchi State my brother Governor Bala Mohammed should just come out and apologise to Nigerians. It will be consoling because we all make mistakes and if he apologises it will be appreciated. But to continue to argue is inflicting pains especially on some of us that have been victims of these Fulani herdsmen. And we are thinking that he is part of the conspiracy to wipe some people away including Benue State, and this is not correct”, he said.
Speaking further, Governor Ortom revealed that he had gotten a note of assassination from the herdsmen and thinks Bala has a hand in it. He then noted that if anything happens to him, people need not be in doubt of who could have been behind it but should rather hold Bala Mohammed responsible. “And I want to think that with what he said and what those herdsmen wrote to me that they were going to assassinate me, Bala Mohammed is also part of what they have said and if anything happens to me, I don’t want anybody to be in doubt, Bala Mohammed should be held responsible especially his last week’s after the condemnable remarks he made about Fulani carrying AK-47 and living anywhere”, he concluded.
