I Won’t Apologise For My 2010 World Cup Goal Miss – Aiyegbeni

Retired Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has insisted he won’t apologise for his horrific South Africa 2010 World Cup open goal miss against South Korea the last game of the group stage.  Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Nigeria needed a win in the game to qualify for the second round of the tournament, and the Asian side needed just a draw, the game ended 2-2, but it is believed that if Yakubu had scored his open goal miss just maybe Nigeria would have qualified for the second round.

Yakubu during a recent interview with the nation TV on Wednesday, January 27, Aiyegbeni insisted that he won’t apologise because he has nothing to apologise for because he had in the past scored so many goals for Nigeria and has also sacrificed a lot the country.

He said;

“I won’t apologise at all. Why should I? I have scored so many goals for Nigeria too. I have sacrificed a lot for the country. Did anyone apologise to me?
“I cannot apologise because it wasn’t a deliberate miss. I seriously wanted to score. But it wasn’t to be. So many have strikers have missed chances too and nobody will apologise so I won’t.”
