Mallam Nasir Birnin-Yero, a reporter with the Voice of America (VOA) in Kaduna, whose family was kidnapped in February has revealed that they have been released. According to Nasir, he paid a ransom of N2m to secure their freedom. Speaking on how his wife and kid were kidnapped, Nasir said the abductors who were about 30 in number stormed his home in Birnin Yero, near Kaduna at about 1:30 am on February 28th. He continued saying his wife was asked to produce him and unable to do just that, the men stormed off with his wife and son. Nasir also revealed that his neighbour Sabitu Abdulhamid, an FRSC officer Sabitu Abdulhamid, was killed in the process. The man had come out to challenge the abductors when they stormed his home, but got killed in the process.

On his family gaining their freedom, Nasir said they were released late Friday at Sabon Birni, a village near Kaduna International Airport.
