World’s oldest woman, Koku Istambulova says she hasn’t lived a single happy day in her life.

Koku who’s from Chechnya in Russia will be 129 on June 1. “It was God’s will, I did nothing to make it happen,” Koku said when asked how she lived so long. “I see people going in for sports, eating something special, keeping themselves fit, but I have no idea how I lived until now.”

She further stated that her life was not a happy one after surviving the Russian Civil War, the Second World War, the deportation of Russia in 1944 and through two Chechen wars. “I have not had a single happy day in my life,” she adds. “I have always worked hard, digging in the garden. I am tired. Long life is not at all God’s gift for me – but a punishment.”

Koku’s relatives revealed that she lost her only surviving daughter, Tamara, who lived until she was 104, five years ago.
