The United States Department of Justice has maintained that only President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration can provide reasons why suspended DCP Abba Kyari has not been extradited to the U.S following his alleged involvement in an international fraudulent scheme reportedly carried out by Instagram celebrity, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi .

Spokeswoman for the DOJ, Nicole Oxman, stated this in an email.

“As a matter of policy, the department generally does not comment on extradition-related matters. We defer any questions about the status of a defendant’s extradition to the foreign country,” she said.

Oxman reportedly made the comment in response to enquiries from the publication after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) declared Kyari wanted for drug trafficking.

KOKO TV NIGERIA had reported that NDLEA narrated how it filmed the moment Kyari was negotiating a drug deal for the release of 25kg of cocaine and offered $61,400 cash to NDLEA officer.

Justice minister Abubakar Malami had disclosed that Kyari, fingered in the Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas’ multimillion-dollar internet fraud scheme, may be extradited to the U.S. to face charges. However, Malami did not provide a time frame for the process to be completed.

Malami explained that Buhari’s regime was collaborating with the U.S government on Kyari’s involvement with Hushpuppi.

According to him, both countries had been “discussing and collaborating and there are exchange of correspondence from the perspective of investigation, from the perspective of extradition and associated things.”

Since the FBI uncovered Kyari’s involvement in the multimillion-dollar internet scam by Hushpuppi and his syndicate, three separate panels had been set up by the police to examine and reexamine the case filed by the FBI against him.
