Emeka Akumefule, the famous Nigerian rapper, who is popularly known as Blaqbonez, has talked about his stage name.
He revealed how he came up with his stage name, Blaqbonez.
The artiste revealed this during the latest episode of the popular Nigerian podcast “Tea with Tay”, during the podcast episode titled “The Rapper That Can Do All”. The Back in Uni artiste said his stage name originally belonged to an unrevealed friend.
Blaqbonez said he decided to steal the said name from his friend because he wasn’t using it at the time. He also asserted that he got his friend’s consent before using the name officially.
He said, “I stole it, it was my friend’s name. His name was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t it using it for anything. The guy just likes rap so he gave himself a rap name, he wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything.
“So one day I just said ‘bro, you no dey use this name and I like am’ and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I was in school then.”
The rapper also divulged that he started his career as a rapper in reaction to a challenge thrown at him by his cousin.
“I had no idea I could sing or rap earlier. I started rapping because I was challenged by my cousin. I used to criticise people, I thought nothing was difficult. I thought whatever you’re doing, if I decide to do it, I will do it better. So, that’s how I started rapping,” he said
The singer, Blaqbonez, came to the limelight in 2012 after being signed to M.I’s Chocolate City record label. The singer also attended Obafemi Awolowo University.
