The National Chairman of the association, Dr. Kingsley Amibor, explained that Hospital pharmacists are not quick to use industrial action as a bargaining tool. “We want to call the attention of the federal government to the salary arrears and other protracted issues demotivating pharmacists in the discharge of their duties of care to millions of Nigerians.

“The FG should look at a holistic way of solving the myriads of problems in the healthcare sector instead of the current piecemeal approach that is cosmetic, shallow and creates more problems at the end of the day,” he said.

Amibor also accused the government of shirking its responsibility to pay members the agreed COVID-19 enhanced hazard allowance as well as provision of adequate Personal Protective Equipment to aid their work.

“We appreciate the government on the efforts being made to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country. However, we must state that pharmacists and other healthcare workers are getting infected every day because of lack of basic personal protective equipment.

“We call on the government to provide adequate PPE for pharmacists and other healthcare workers who are at the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic control efforts.

“Additionally, we wish to remind the government to honour her decision to pay enhanced hazard allowance to healthcare workers since March 2020. The pronouncement has not translated into any tangible result yet.
