Fear and turmoil reigns in Benue state as Fulani Herdsmen attack Mbalom village, Benue state. The attack was reportedly carried out in the early hours of the day leaving 19 people dead. 35 houses were burnt and two Rev. Fathers were reportedly killed during the attack. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha who were serving at St. Ignatius Quasi Parish, Ukpor-Mbalom were killed in the process of the attack. Sources also disclosed that 17 worshippers were killed alongside the Rev. Fathers. Several months prior to the attack, Rev. Fr. Gor had expressed his fear about the consistent attacks on the state.
Moses Iorapuu, Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Makurdi confirmed the incident in a statement sent to DAILY POST.He called on federal government to stop the incessant killings in the state and country at large. His statement reads, “In their classic style, they burnt down homes, destroy food items and kill. The police seem to know nothing of the attacks which have been going on in other villages within Benue State since the Anti-Open Grazing Law came into effect last year”.Photo Credit: Getty
