Herders Abduct, Rape Pregnant Woman


Two herdsmen identified as Nuru Tukur and Yusufa Haruna have pleaded guilty to the rape of a pregnant woman they abducted from her home in Yaba area of Abaji Area Council of Abuja.


The two herders were arraigned before Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Tuesday.

The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu told the court that Mr Abubakar Wakili of Yaba in Abaji Area Council reported the matter at Gwagwalada Area Command office on February 26th.

Yakubu said that on February 25th the convicts abducted the victim from Abaji Area Council from her house.

NAN reports that the convicts took the victim to a bush were both of them raped her not minding that she was eight months pregnant.

The police charged Nuru Tukur, 21, and Yusufa Haruna, 29, with criminal conspiracy, force, assault and adultery by man, they pleaded guilty to all charges.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 96, 262, 264, 387 of the Penal Code.

The two herders pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate ordered that they should be remanded in a correctional centre pending sentencing.

The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, deferred sentencing in order for him to see the victim and know her present condition.

Abdulkarim adjourned the case until March 22nd for sentencing.
