Health Minister Calls For Calm Amidst Monkey Pox Panic

The Federal Minister of Health (Mr. Issac Adewole) has appealed to all Nigerians to remain calm amidst reports of the suspected monkeypox outbreak in Bayelsa state. Speaking to newsmen in his Abuja office on Thursday, Adewole assured Nigerians that though it is a deadly disease, there is no record of human death from the disease in medical history. He further assured citizens that efforts are being made to reduce the spread of the disease to the barest minimum as all suspected victims have been placed in a quarantined area.
Stating that confirmation of the disease cannot be made till results come from the World Health Organization (WHO) Test Centre in Dakar, He advised Nigerians to avoid eating monkeys and bushmeat.Photo Credit: Getty
