One of the richest men in Nigeria and the Agba Oye of Ibadanland, Chief Harry Akande has crossed over to the great beyond at the age of 77 following a brief illness.
The business mogul’s death, who was the father-in-law of actress Dakore Egbuson-Akande was announced in a statement issued by one of his sons Olumide Akande for the family, The Cable reported. His death is coming a few weeks after Ibadan lost one of its billionaire business mogul, Chief Bode Akindele, the Parakoyi of Ibadanland.
“In the early hours of Saturday December 5, 2020, our patriarch Chief Harry Ayodele Akande passed away following a brief illness. Chief Harry Akande was an astute businessman of international repute whose legacy and influence cut across continents. “It is our fervent hope that this will be a reality in the not too distant future. His passing is a huge shock to his immediate & extended family, friends & associates. We are all grappling to make some sense of it. As we seek the repose of his gentle soul, we ask you to in turn to uphold us in your prayers while we pass through this very turbulent period of our lives occasioned by the loss of someone as dear as him”, the statement reads.
Dele Momodu and Dakore further confirmed the death in their posts on social media. “CHIEF HARRY AYOADE AKANDE had held America spellbound with his Hollywood star-like lifestyle… He is the second Ibadan billionaire to pass on this year after the departure of The Parakoyi, CHIEF BODE AKINDELE… May their souls Rest in Peace”, Dele Momodu tweeted.
Chief Harry Akande was the chairman of Akande International Corporation (AIC) — with interest in healthcare, engineering, building construction and power. He was a one-time presidential aspirant on the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform.
