Coronavirus: FG Has Neglected Kano State – Gov. Ganduje

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has said during an interview with BBC Hausa April 27, 2020,  that the state is struggling badly at the moment with COVID-19 and that the Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire and NCDC Director-General Chike Ihekweazu have decided to ignore him and Kano State leaving them in the State in a “really bad and scary Coronavirus situation”.

Kano State has the 3rd highest confirmed cases of the deadly novel virus in the country at 77, behind Lagos with (731) and FCT Abuja (141).

The Governor state during the interview the testing Laboratory in the state had been closed for about 5 to 6 days after 3 laboratory workers tested positive for the virus, the Gov further said the closure of the testing centre is a major problem for them in the state in its fight against the fatal novel virus.

“This laboratory suspended its operation five or six days ago. There is also a shortage of sample collection equipment.
“It is not a common equipment that you can go and buy in the market. Those whose samples were collected are still waiting to know their fate,” he said.

The Governor Umar Ganduje later accused the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 lead by Dr Aliyu Sani of not doing enough to help and support Kano in this dire period. He also pointed fingers at some of the officials of the task force especially at the Director-General of the (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu and the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, who are aware of the state’s problems but have chosen to neglect him and Kano State anyway.

He said, “We are not getting the needed support and cooperation from the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.”
