Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has yet again disappointed the good people of Lagos following the just concluded APC primaries election.
The incumbent governor Gov. Ambode officially lost the APC primaries election this morning after it was announced by the Lagos chapter chairman, Alhaji Tunde Balogun.
At the end of the election, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was declared the winner of the election across the 245 wards of the 20 Local Government Areas of the state. By this declaration, Sanwo-Olu has emerged as APC flag-bearer for the 2019 governorship elections in Lagos State.
Despite this, Ambode Campaign Organisation (ACO) insist that Gov. Ambode has not conceded the election and that the election has not yet taken place.
There was a lot of confusion surrounding the votes are several of Ambode’s supporters said they were unable to vote. None of these complaints were taken particularly seriously as the results were announced regardless.
He went on to promise to deliver a speech at a press conference at 2pm and he failed to do so. His supporters were left waiting for the governor to honour his statement and make his speech. It would seem that his legacy of half done projects is to continue till the end of his tenure.
The governor went on to congratulate the winner of the election later in the day however, this has not alleviated the feeling of disappointment borne in the hearts of Lagosians who had such high hopes for him. amid the rumors of him joining PDP with an automatic gubernatorial ticket, this could not come at a worse time.
This loss will go down in the history books as the first time an incumbent governor has lost so badly, during re-election. Whether it was popularity, politics or godfatherism, we congratulate the winner and wish him the best in the main election.
The humiliating loss of 970851 to 72901 in favour of Babajide Sanwo-Olu would ordinarily be a career ending loss. We however, look forward to seeing what the future holds for Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.
