Goods Worth Millions Of Naira Destroyed After Heavy Flooding In Alaba International Market (Video)

According to several reports, some traders at the popular Alaba International market Lagos are currently in a very sad state.

They are counting their losses after goods worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the heavy flooding witnessed in the market on Saturday, September 16.

The heavy downpour in Lagos on Saturday led to many places being flooded. Videos shared online showed water destroying goods.

In other news, In what will come across as a really startling development, a motorcyclist has been swept away by flood during a downpour in Lagos state on Saturday.

The incident occurred at the Ile-Epo area of Alimosho LGA of the state.

Ibrahim Farinloye, territorial coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said the motorcyclist was swept into a canal after refusing to heed his colleagues warnings not to ride in the rain.

He said the incident happened around 10:30am and that the body of the victim is yet to be recovered as of the time he was speaking.

The rainfall, which started in the wee hours of the morning, lasted for hours and led to flooding in different parts of Lagos including Papa Ashafa and Fashola communities in Orile-Agege LCDA.

Farinloye said some residents that have been displaced by the flood are taking refuge in four churches in the area.

“Some vulnerable groups have moved to temporary safe facilities, while the adults are salvaging their water-impacted properties,”he said.

“NEMA is assisting the owner of a building where the fence collapsed.”

Farinloye also said Mustapha Ahmed, director-general of NEMA, has directed the immediate release of relief materials to the affected flood victims in Lagos.

“Children wears, women wears, mattresses, antiseptics and other immediate assistance to the impacted population at Orile-Agege LGA to provide immediate succour to about 200 people this afternoon are being loaded currently, ” Farinloye said.

He appealed to Lagos residents to take precautions during such heavy rainfall.

KOKO TV NG had also reported how many communities in the state were flooded during the rain.

The areas most affected by the rainfall include Satellite Town; Oko-baba in Agege; Egbede; Ikotun; Ajegunle; and Ojo.
