Popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Gumi, has asked the Federal Government of Nigeria to give bandits who are willing to repent and make peace ‘blanket amnesty’ in order to tackle insecurity in the nation.
Sheikh Gumi made this call today Friday addressing journalists in Minna, Niger State capital, giving an update about his visitation to the camps of some bandits operating in Niger State.
Explaining that some of the complaints of the bandits are that they were being killed and maimed unjustly, Gumi said, “The Federal government should give them blanket amnesty, then if somebody continue, then we will deal with them”. He added that outcome of his visit was positive, but did not state if the students have been released. “The outcome (of his visit) is very positive. We have many factions and each faction is saying I have complaints and grievances – we are persecuted, we are arrested, we are lynched”, he added.
