Girl Power! Nigerian Bobsled Team Are Already Making Plans For 2022 Winter Olympics

Alicia Keys didn’t make a mistake when she composed her “Girl On Fire” song and inserted lyrics that accurately described the girl power. Everyday, women keep breaking barriers in the mens world, and the three wonderful ladies that represented Nigeria as the first Bobsled team in the Winter Olympics are part of these barrier breaking women.
It’s no news that for the first time, Nigeria was represented in Winter Olympics by Sean Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga and Ngozi Onwumere as the Nigeria women Bobsled team. These strong willed ladies made it to the olympics self sponsored.
However, on Sunday February 18th, Sean Adigun and Akuoma Omeoga dropped one spot from 19th to 20th in the official Heats 3 and 4 at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongehang, South Korea. It was reported that the 52.21 recorded by the duo in their first heat was remarkable, and it triggered a wide celebration in Team Nigerias camp.
According to Chisom Mbonu Ezeoke, the Communications Directors of BSFN, the 52.21 records calls for celebration, and the reason he gave for the celebration was that: “All other competitors on the track had been participating in Bobsled event for the past five to seven years, and our athletes are less than a year in the game.”
“Its quite amazing, I’m overwhelmed with joy and overwhelmed with the idea of how history was made and we gave everything we had to it”, said Seun Adigun. “This was just one of those days that you can’t really describe; full of all kinds of emotions, full of relief, full of history.”
The driver of the team who is also Adigun made the above statements after they came 20th next to the Jamaican team which came 19th and were also the first women from their country to compete at the Winter Olympics.
The Nigerian Bobsled Team stated that they would comeback to represent Nigeria in 2022 Beijing Olympics and win medals just like the Germans won the gold medal.
