Gingers Unite! Ed Sheeran Team Up With Prince Harry To Raise Awareness For World Mental Health Day

Ed Sheeran has bonded with “King of Ginge” Prince Harry over their red hair in a new video for World Mental Health Day.

The Shape of You singer shared the new clip on his Instagram account this morning that sees the pair of them meeting at Ivy Cottage, Kensington Palace to discuss the project.

But in the hilarious spoof video, Ed can be seen mistakenly believing that he and the Duke of Sussex are meeting to discuss their red hair.

Speaking to Harry, the singer says: “I’ve actually been trying to write a song about this, to get it out to more people.” Harry responds: “Someone with your skillset to be able to write lyrics of a song, to raise awareness would be amazing.”

It quickly becomes clear that Ed has got the wrong end of the stick.

He continues: “That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. People don’t understand what it’s like for people like us, the jokes and snide comments, I just feel like it’s time we stood up and said we’re not going to take this anymore. We are ginger and we’re going to fight.”

Playing along Harry then says: “This is a bit awkward – there might have been a miscommunication but this is about World Mental Health day.”

A then, apparently crestfallen, Ed can be seen deleting “GINGERS UNITE” from his laptop screen. But joking aside, Prince Harry then addresses the camera saying: “Guys, this World Mental Health Day reach out make sure your friends, strangers look out for anybody that might be suffering in silence together.”

Ed was also keen to get the real message across on social media. Captioning the video on Instagram he wrote: “It’s World Mental Health Day! Myself and Prince Harry, want to ensure that not just today but every day, you look after yourself, your friends and those around you. There’s no need to suffer in silence – share how you’re feeling, ask how someone is doing and listen for the answer, be willing to ask for help when you need it, and know that we are all in this together.” The pair shared a teaser clip of their project on the Sussex royal account on Wednesday.

In the clip, Shape of You singer Ed Sheeran arrives at what appears to be the entrance to the front of Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace, where Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank live, and presses the doorbell.

To the delight of many fans, a God Save the Queen tune plays, before the Duke of Sussex opens the door to greet him, saying “it’s like looking in the mirror.” After saying hi to each other and shaking hands, Ed asks Prince Harry if he minds if the camera is brought into his home. Harry replies “Not at all” and the pair then head inside together.
