Gas Explosion Rocks Oduduwa University

There was a fire outbreak at the mini-mart of Oduduwa University Ile-Ife, Osun State on Wednesday after a gas explosion.

The incident happened around 12 am when the gas exploded from one of the shops at the mini-mart of the university-owned by Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin, standing trial over the alleged murder of a Master student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke.

Osun Fire Service spokesman, Adekunle Ibraheem, confirmed the fire incident, stressing there was no casualty during the unfortunate incident.

He said: “Our men were called upon and we were able to put off the fire. Our prompt action made it impossible for the fire to spread to the hostel and other buildings.”

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the school Gboyega Adeyemo, denied speculation that the school hostel was razed.

He explained: “Contrary to what is being bandied in certain quarters, the fire incident that happened on the campus was caused by a gas explosion from one of the shops in the mini-market.

“The fire was discovered by a security personnel on patrol, he noticed the fire coming from one of the shops situated at the area and immediately alerted the security department.

”A swift move was taken as men from the Oduduwa University fire service arrived on the spot to put out the fire. It took the efforts of the firefighters in conjunction with the Obafemi Awolowo University fire services to control the spread of the inferno. However, at the time the fire was put out, a part of the market had been affected. There was no loss of life nor injury sustained.”
