Garba Shehu, the Official Spokesperson to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has unleashed on himself the anger and wrath of Nigerians for naming Leah Sharibu ‘the unfortunate Christian girl’.
Garba has said this while firing back at UK-based Nigerian activist Reno Omokri, who had challenged him to pass a night in Borno State or Sokoto State without security guards to prove his claim that the President has made the country safer.
Reno had offered to give him $20,000 if he accepts his challenge, and in return, Garba Shehu said he wouldn’t want his money if it was made from the collections on Leah’s release. Calling the embattled young girl an unfortunate christian girl didn’t go well with Nigerians, and they did not hesitate to react. “Think before tweeting. If they call your daughter “the unfortunate Christian girl”, how will you react?”, one wrote on Twitter.

“If anyone is unfortunate, its you and the government you represent that is unfortunate. If not for the failure and the incompetence of your principal you would not have the opportunity to call LEAH SHARIBU unfortunate Christian girl. Religious bigots. Unfortunate being!”, another wrote. Did I just read @GarShehu
Refer to Leah as the "UNFORTUNATE CHRISTIAN GIRL STOLEN by Boko Haram?"
And yet, y'all wonder why the US blacklisted Nigeria.
Well, his daughters are safe and happy, why won't he vomit GARBA-ge as usual. pic.twitter.com/DjPlDwcyeG— Obianujunwa (@Obianujunwa56) December 24, 2020
