Game Of Thrones Recap: How The Fire Frightenedly Became The Ice

After years of teasing, Game Of Thrones finally made good on its implied promise to one day pitch flame-snorting dragons against ice zombies. The dragons arrived at the climax of a 70-minute penultimate episode.Jon Snow’s crack squad who had the brilliantly stupid idea of kidnapping a white walker in the previous episode, ends up going south literally when they are attacked first by a zombie bear and then by an entire zombie horde. The Night King’s army of the dead is stopped by one fortunate circumstance after another: first a pond, then a dragon, and finally Uncle Benjen (remember him?), who comes out swinging an incense burner and sacrifices his life for Jon.We cannot start explaining how a pond became a saviour or how Ned’s brother Uncle Benjen miraculousy showed up. But we can tell you about the arrival of the dragons. After Gendry is sent on a sprint back to the wall to ask for reinforcements, Daenerys – against the objections of Tyrion – decides to fly in on her monsters to spit fires on the Night King and his men. But during the battle, one of the dragons gets killed. The death finally transforms Daenerys into the sort of hero and queen she’s always wanted to be, vowing in a seemingly romantic moment with Jon to dedicate her efforts towards battling the army of the dead. And at the very end of the show, the unimaginable happened! The Night King brought back the dead dragon back to life, transforming one of the monster beasts over to the side of the dead. Now we have a dragon that spits ice for the dead. Why didn’t Jon just take time out to ensure that the dragon was burnt before escaping? Now fire is truly about to meet ice!Photo Credit: Getty
