Game Of Thrones: What Happened To Jon Snow’s Direwolf?

Arya Stark might have reunited with her direwolf aka Nymeria, albeit for a brief moment in Game Of Thrones this season, but Nymeria’s only living brother has been missing in action for virtually all of Season 7. This has led to many concluding that Jon Snow’s direwolf aka Ghost might be dead. Ghost last made an appearance in season 6, episode 3, when he watched Jon come back from the dead. But lovers of Jon Snow need not fear because unless someone is keeping information from Jon Snow in a major way, the big white dog is safe in Winterfell, out of the action. According to producer Bryan Cogman’, Ghost was meant to appear in Season 7 in a premiere episode scene with Jon that got cut. That’s enough evidence that he is still alive and well. In the episode “Eastwatch,” the direwolf got a little shoutout. Sansa said that she warned the King in the North that “he couldn’t leave the North and expect it to just sit and wait for him like Ghost.”The main reason we haven’t seen the direwolf more often is that the producers set a high bar for visual realism on the series and ultra-large wolves are difficult to render convincingly. Quoting one of the show’s executives, “A naturalistic furry animal takes more time and resources to create using computer effects than a fantastical scaly dragon.”Hopefully Ghost will appear in the Season 7 finale if only to remind fans that he’s still a factor. The episode is titled “The Dragon and the Wolf,” so that’s promising.Photo Credit: Getty
